Aloha, Travelers! If you’ve been keeping an eye on the news lately, you might have seen the headlines about the historic storms that moved through the beautiful Hawaiian Islands between March 10th and 16th. As a travel advisor who specializes in booking dream vacations to Hawaii, I’ve had many clients reaching out to ask: “Is it still safe to go? Should we cancel our trip?” My answer is a resounding: Keep your plans! Hawaii is open, operational, and as magical as ever. While it’s true that parts of Oahu, Hawaii Island, Kauai, and Maui experienced record-breaking rainfall and localized flooding, the state’s recovery efforts have been nothing short of phenomenal. Governor Josh Green recently confirmed that airports, shops, restaurants, and the vast majority of accommodations are operating exactly as normal.

Here is what I am hearing straight from my on-the-ground partners and fellow travel advisors who had clients on the islands during the storms:
The Islands Are Lush, Green, and Gorgeous One of the best silver linings to a heavy rainstorm in Hawaii is the aftermath. My local contacts in Maui are reporting that the landscape has exploded into vibrant, breathtaking shades of green. It is quite literally one of the most beautiful times to see the islands’ tropical flora.
The Resort Are Ready for You I am in constant contact with top properties across the islands, and the updates are fantastic. For instance, The Ritz-Carlton Oahu, Turtle Bay on the North Shore sustained zero damage, and nearby attractions like the Polynesian Cultural Center are fully up and running. Over on Maui, the road to the airport is clear, and The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua is welcoming guests with open arms. Minor street flooding in places like Waikiki has receded, and the retail and culinary scenes are buzzing once again.
The Magic of Hawaii Always Shines Through I had colleagues with clients on the islands right in the middle of the weather system. Did some of them have to pivot? Yes. A canceled luau or a postponed whale-watching cruise turned into a private chef dinner at their villa or a cozy day of shopping and playing games. Through it all, their feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Why? Because the Aloha spirit is real. As one of my peers beautifully put it: “Hawaii fulfills you in unimaginable ways, offering more than it takes. Even with the storms, the magic of Hawaii shines through, reminding you that no trip here can ever be a loss.”
How You Can Help: Be a “Good Tourist” The best way to support Hawaii right now is simply by showing up. When you keep your travel plans, you are directly supporting local jobs, family-owned businesses, and communities that rely on tourism to thrive. All we ask is that you travel with mindfulness—respect any posted signs near residential recovery zones and bring your patience and gratitude. If you are feeling extra generous, there are even volunteer opportunities available through the Hawaii Tourism Authority that I can help arrange for your itinerary!
If you have a trip on the books, get excited! Your Hawaiian getaway is going to be spectacular. And if you’ve been waiting for a sign to book your next island escape, this is it.
